Historically, very close relationships have existed between Korea and China, and the present relationship is getting closer as time goes. However, studies on relations between the two countries have not been sufficient. To deal with this problem, Northeast Asian History Foundation have tried various approaches to deepen the studies. This book is one of the results of the Foundation's efforts. Unlike other researches dealing with Korea-China relations, this book starts with raising a question of how to organize the different appearances of the bilateral relations for different historical periods. Through this research, one can explore whether the system of throne endorsement and tribute presentation - which has been used as an important theoretical frame to explain the historical relations between Korea and China - can really explain the state of each period in an effective way. This book is also meaningful in that it has viewed the history of Korea-China relations not within the scope of one country's history but in the context of the whole East Asia. Given that the boundary of 'East Asia' has expanded or shrunk depending on each period, the research helps understand diverse appearances of the international order which has organically related to each period. In addition, it should also be regarded as a fruit of the research that it raises a question from a different perspective about something that has maintained such a long stream of relationships between Korea and China even though each period has been different in appearance.
