The focus of this book is to describe the Korea-Japan Agreement which defined the basic framework of Korea-Japan relations following Japan's defeat in the war and Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule. The Korea-Japan Agreement was concluded and took effect in 1965 after the bilateral discussion, i.e. Korea-Japan talks, which had continued on and off for fourteen years. As many as fifty years have passed since. In those years, some provisions of the Korea-Japan Agreement have been revised, and some other provisions, while remaining intact, have been complemented by improvements to better serve their purpose. In this respect, one cannot understand the Korea-Japan Agreement properly in terms of its nature, contents, and meaning without also examining the Korea-Japan talks and the ensuing Korea-Japan relations in a comprehensive and systematic manner in the context of history. Hence the title chosen for this book: "The Korea-Japan Talks and the Korea-Japan Agreement, and the Ensuing Korea-Japan Relations."
