Title: Balhae Sites in Heoryeong (2012-2013 Excavations Report)
ISBN 978-89-6187-366-6 93910
Balhae's territory encompassed vast areas including Northeast China, the northen Korean Peninsula, and the Maritime Province of Russia (Primorsky Krai). Naturally, there are many Balhae sites spread across these areas. In North Korea, in particular, major Balhae sites are located primarily in North Hamgyeong Province. From 2012 to 2013, the Balhae History Institute at Yanbian University and the Archaeological Research Institute at the Korean Academy of Social Sciences conducted a joint excavation of Balhae sites in the city of Heoryeong in North Hamgyeong Province. The two-year excavation resulted in this book, which has been published to provide the academia with important real materials for advancing further research on the history of Balhae.
