This book is a report on the Survey of Koguryo Fortresses in Hwanghae Province, a project conducted by the Department of Social Sciences at Yanbian University with the support from the Northeast Asian History Foundation in 2012. Previously, a few brief excavation reports on Koguryo Fortresses in North Korea were released to the academia, but with few details. Besides, those reports were too short to describe the sites in detail and had few pictures, and, therefore, were not very useful references for those intending to conduct systematic research. This book, on the other hand, contains the results of a survey of the ten Koguryo Fortresses in North and South Hwanghae Provinces that were little known to the academia, including Onui Fortress and Guwol Fortress, complete with high-resolution pictures, and is, therefore, very helpful in understanding various aspects of Koguryo Fortresses in North Korea.
