This book is an English translation of the book,《해동성국, 고구려를 품은 발해》by the Foundation. Balhae is a country that succeeded Goguryeo and, as a cultural transmitter of East Asia, stands proudly as a member of Korean history alongside Silla in forming the Northern and Southern States. This book covers the history and culture of Balhae during the reigns of King Mu and King Mun, who laid the foundation for the development of Haedong Seongguk, and the reign of King Seon, who spread the banner of Haedong Seongguk both domestically and internationally. It also depicts Balhae's dynamic foreign exchanges and the daily lives of Balhae people, as well as exploring the significance of Balhae's fall for us today.
