As part of its engagement in history education for people in Korea as well as overseas, the Northeast Asian History Foundation hereby announces its History Teacher Exchange Program for 2017. For schools or teachers interested in the program, please refer to the following details in order to apply.

1. Program Purpose
o To contribute to establishing a peaceful Northeast Asian community by helping teachers and students better understand the histories and cultures of neighboring countries and share future-oriented perceptions toward them through classes taught by history (social science, geography) teachers exchanged between Korea and China, Japan, and Taiwan.
2. Program Outline
o Program Name: 2017 NAHF History Teacher Exchange Program
o Outline: Exchange (visit) of history (social science, geography) teachers between middle and high schools in the Republic of Korea and schools in China, Japan, and Taiwan to teach history (social science, geography) classes for local students.
o Teaching Hours: More than 2 hours suggested per teacher
o Teaching Period: May-November, 2017
- Classes will be operated according to individual schedule of each participating school.
o Program Limit: No more than a total of 5 teams
- Team setup: A pair of one school each from South Korea and China (Taiwan) or South Korea and Japan with two teachers from each school to form a team of four teachers.
※ The program limit and participation format are subject to partial adjustment depending on the application results from reviewing various factors including the eligibility of applicants.
※ Schools (teachers) that have participated in the program for the past two years (2015, 2016) will be excluded from consideration this year.
o Exchange Locations: South Korea↔China·Taiwan, South Korea↔Japan
o Scope of Support
- Within a maximum of 5 million Korean Won per team (including airfare and living expenses)
o Method of Selection
- Participating schools to be selected through a review of submitted proposals.
3. Application Guidelines
o Class Proposal
- Any class theme that suits the program's purpose
※ Classes that intend to use Korea-China-Japan or Korea-Japan common supplementary textbooks will be preferably considered.
※ It will be preferable for history classes by the same team of history teachers to teach identical themes in both countries.
o Eligibility
- Middle and high school teachers in South Korea
※ Applications must be made in the name of a school's principal and those made in the name of individual teachers will not be considered.
- Schools capable of facilitating history classes taught by exchanged teachers (between South Korea and China or Taiwan, or between South Korea and Japan)
※ It is advised for South Korean schools that already have sisterhood relationships with schools in China or Japan to form teams with such schools.
- At least one teacher from each school must be in charge of teaching history (social science, geography) and the other teacher from the same school will be allowed to teach about an issue common to East Asia if that teacher is incapable of teaching a history-related subject.
o Application Method
- Submit all attachments listed below as required documents along with an official document issued by the school principal that notifies application to the program.
※ Submission is allowed via the electronic document system or by post.
※ Due to the transfer limit in the electronic document system, all attachments and documents may be saved on either a CD or USB and posted to the Northeast Asian History Foundation via registered mail.

· <Attachment no. 3> One copy of the consent form for teacher exchange implementation
· One copy of each teacher's proof of employment issued by a participating school

※ For applications submitted via registered mail, only those that arrive by the announced deadline will be considered.

4. Post-application Procedure
o Application Review & Notification
- Applications will be reviewed and selected through a NAHF-designated review committee.
- The list of selected schools will be posted on the NAHF website and such schools will also be individually notified.
※ The program limit and participation format are subject to partial adjustment depending on the application results from reviewing various factors including the eligibility of applicants.
o Conclusion of Agreement
- Selected schools will conduct their proposed projects after entering into an agreement with NAHF.
※ The terms and details of each project, including the delivery of project funds, will be individually determined through each project's agreement.
- Meetings to conclude agreements will be held in May 2017.
o Reports on Project Results & Expenses
- Separate reports on a project's results and expenses will be submitted after completing the project.
- Deadline for Submission of the Report on Project Results and the Report on Project Expenses: November 29, 2017 (Wednesday)
※ Projects completed early will be required to submit the aforementioned reports within one month since the date of project completion.
o Other Details
- According to relevant laws and regulations, civil and criminal responsibilities may entail along with the redemption of funds should it be discovered that falsehoods have been included in documents submitted for application or other unlawful means have been used to obtain funds from the program.
- All funds inappropriately used or spent on purposes other than those of the proposed project will be fully redeemed.
- This announcement may be re-posted should there be a shortage of applications.
