The Northeast Asian History Foundation held the 435th Wednesday Forum on September 10 (Wednesday) in the main conference room on the 11th floor. For this session, Professor Lee Keun-Gwan of Seoul National University School of Law and member of the UN International Law Commission was invited to give a lecture on “Australia’s Role in the Process of Concluding the San Francisco Peace Treaty.”
The lecture provided an in-depth explanation of how Australia, despite suffering heavy damage during World War II, sought to play a leading role in the postwar order in the Pacific through the San Francisco Peace Treaty process but remained in an adjusted position under the dominance of the U.S. and the U.K., while securing its national security through the ANZUS alliance with the United States.
