International Conference on the 35th Anniversary of Korea–Russia Diplomatic Relations – 35 Years of Korea–Russia Ties: From Disconnection to Continuity

The Northeast Asian History Foundation, together with the Korean Association of Slavic and Eurasian Studies and the Korean Association of Eurasian Studies, co-hosted an international academic conference on the 35th anniversary of Korea–Russia diplomatic relations on Friday, September 12, at the Foundation’s main conference hall.

This conference was organized to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and Russia, with the aim of presenting a vision for peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia amidst international changes and regional conflicts, and to explore constructive and amicable directions for Korea–Russia relations.

 

The program consisted of a roundtable and two sessions. At the roundtable, participants discussed the theme “35 Years of Korea–Russia Relations: Progress and Assessment,” focusing on ways to further develop bilateral relations. Session 1, under the theme “Between Conflict and Cooperation: Russia’s East Asia Strategy,” examined the impact of Russia’s East Asia strategy on Russia–China, Korea–Russia, and inter-Korean relations. Session 2, under the theme “Korea and Russia in History: From Disconnection to Connection,” explored Korea–Russia relations from a historical perspective.

 

chung Yong-sang, Secretary-General of the Foundation, expressed his hope that this academic conference would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen relations between the two countries and contribute to the establishment of correct history in Northeast Asia and the realization of regional peace through continuous academic exchange.
