The Northeast Asian History Foundation held a reopening ceremony at the Yeongdeungpo Dokdo Experience Center at 3 p.m. on October 24, 2025.
Attending the ceremony were Minister of Education Choi Gyo-jin, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, Yeongdeungpo District Councilor Park Hyun-woo, former Seoul National University President Oh Se-jung, Korea’s first Ambassador for Human Rights Park Kyung-seo, Sookmyung Foundation Chairman Park In-guk, Seoul National University Professor Emeritus Jung Jin-sung, as well as about 100 teachers and students from Dangsan Middle School and Yuhan Technical High School. Members of the National Assembly’s Education Committee, including Chair Kim Young-ho, Representatives Kim Yong-tae and Kang Kyung-sook, and Yeongdeungpo-gap lawmaker Chae Hyun-il, who were unable to attend due to a parliamentary audit schedule, sent video messages of congratulations.
The highlight of this renewal is the creation of the Immersive Video Room, along with multilayered upgrades to the exhibition content. Visitors can experience the vivid reality of being on Dokdo itself through ultra-high-definition (8K) footage filmed on-site, projected onto four immersive large screens with surround sound and other cutting-edge technologies.
Chairperson Park Ji-hang stated, “The newly renovated Dokdo Experience Center, featuring interactive content, will serve not only as an exhibition to ‘see Dokdo’ but as an educational space to ‘experience and remember Dokdo.’ We will continue our efforts to make the center a place where people of all generations can learn and share the history and natural significance of Dokdo.”
