The Northeast Asian History Foundation held an international academic conference on Friday, December 19, at the “Babien Crystal Room,” under the theme “East Asian Challenges in Research on Colonial Rule Policies.”

Through this conference, the Foundation sought to review research trends on colonial rule policies in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, and to re-examine historical perceptions across East Asian countries today.

Under Theme 1, “Retrospect and Prospects of Research on Colonial Policy,” Professor Wang Tai-cheng (National Taiwan University) and Professor Emeritus Park Chan-seung (Hanyang University) delivered presentations. Under Theme 2, “Research on Colonial Policy in East Asia,” Professor Tanaka Misato (Toyo University), Deputy Director Lin Wen-kai (Institute of Taiwan History, Academia Sinica), and Professor Joo Dong-bin (Korea University of Technology and Education) presented their work.

In the general discussion session, Yeon-tae Jeong (Catholic University), Yang-hee Hong (Hanyang University), Myeong-gi Moon (Kookmin University), and Yoon-jeong Kim (Jeonbuk National University), among others, participated and continued the discussion.

Chung Yong-sang, Secretary-General of the Foundation, stated: “The significance of this conference lies in the fact that researchers from Korea, Japan, and Taiwan jointly reflected on research outcomes regarding Japan’s colonial rule policies and discussed future research agendas from an East Asian perspective. By interpreting and comparing history from diverse viewpoints, I believe this will serve as an opportunity to broaden the scope of research on colonial rule policies under Japanese imperialism.
