A Multifaceted Approach to Post-Liberation Korea  To mark the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation, the NAHF and Seoul National University co-hosted an international conference. With seven panels and 25 presentations, scholars explored key issues such as decolonization, U.S. military occupation, the Constitutional Assembly, the formation of North Korea, and war crimes and memory. Also, Professor Stephen Kotkin of Stanford University delivered a keynote lecture that offered a fresh global perspective on Korea’s contemporary history. The conference served as a vital platform for re-examining Korea’s past and expanding international research cooperation.
 
Window of Dialogue for the Future of South Korea and Japan  An international conference on “Korea-Japan Relations from the Japanese View” was held on July 21, covering themes such as Okinawa’s reversion, Korean atomic bomb survivors in Japan, and the legal status of Koreans in Japan. Through in-depth academic dialogue, researchers reaffirmed the complexity of Korea-Japan relations during the Cold War era. The event has been an opportunity for building a valuable academic network between two countries, broadening perspectives and fostering mutual understanding amid ongoing historical tensions.
 
Comparing History Textbooks of South Korea and Japan and Mutual Understanding  The 2nd Korea-Japan History Education Forum was held under the theme “Comparison of Historical Narratives in Korean and Japanese History Textbooks and Building Mutual Understanding.” Textbook authors from South Korea and Japan discussed on the limitations of textbook narratives with critical reflection, along with the possibility of creating a joint textbook.  After the conference, field trip to historical sites in Seoul and Baekje heritage areas provided opportunities to move beyond nation-centered historical perspectives and develop a more balanced historical views.
 
Russia’s War : From the Korean Peninsula to Ukraine  With North Korea’s dispatch of 30,000 troops to the Russia-Ukraine war, the conflict in Europe is spreading to Northeast Asia. As this year marks the 35th year of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Russia,  the latest issue of Northeast Asian History Focus explores how the Russia-Ukraine war impacts East Asian security with special issue of Korean peninsula and Russia. Also, it stresses the need for a new Eurasian strategy beyond the North Korean nuclear issue, analyzing the history of bilateral relationship from the 19th century to the present day.
 
Sharing Concerns and New Directions in History Education  The NAHF held a workshop on East Asian history for secondary school history teachers. The program encouraged sharing classroom challenges and introduced practical ideas such as VR resources and short educational videos. Teachers responded positively, noting the training deepened their understanding and enhanced their teaching skills.
 
“Traditional Market Visit Day” : Coexistence with the Local Community   Since 2011 the NAHF has operated the "Traditional Market Visit Day" program based on its sisterhood relationship with Yeongcheon Market in Seodaemun-gu. This quarterly program has been contributing to revitalizing the local economy by purchasing seasonal goods and sharing with employees. This initiative promotes local businesses and strengthens community ties, serving as a sustainable model of public institutions fulfilling their social responsibility.
 
New Teaching Materials : History Class Content Collection  The History Class Content Collection is now available on a website. This video materials are organized by units from middle and high school history textbooks, and reflects achievement standards, making it easy to integrate naturally into the flow of classroom instruction. As a reliable tool to enrich classroom lessons with greater depth and realism, it aims to provide students with a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of history.
