우리는 일본을 두고 흔히 “가깝고도 먼 나라”라고 한다. 지리적으로 가까워 친한 이웃이 되어야 하지만, 오랜 역사 속에서 그 관계는 항상 ‘먼 나라’였으며, 한일 갈등은 ‘역사 문제’에서 비롯되었다. 한일 양국이 ‘가까운 이웃’으로 미래의 평화체제를 만들어가기 위해서는 ‘상처의 역사’를 외면할 것이 아니라 바르게 보아야 한다. 이에 재단은 ‘일제침탈사 바로알기’라는 이름으로 일반 국민, 학생들이 쉽게 알 수 있는 책들을 펴내고자 하였다. 이 책은 우리 땅 독도에 관한 것이다. 독도는 일본이 대한제국을 침략하는 과정에서 가장 먼저 러일전쟁이 진행되고 있던 1905년 일방적으로 자기 땅이라고 결의했다. 이 책 『자료로 보는 우리 땅 독도 30장면』은 독도가 역사적, 지리적, 국제법적으로 ‘우리 땅’임을 알 수 있는 자료와 사진을 실었다. 독도는 울릉도에서 1년 40일 이상 관측할 수 있으며, 기록과 사진으로 확인 할 수 있다. 또한 삼국사기, 고려사, 세종실록, 지리지, 동국문헌비고 그리고 각종 지도들에 기록되어 있을 뿐만 아니라 일본의 문헌과 지도들 가운데에도 독도가 일본의 영역이 아니라고 기록한 것들이 적지 않다. 이 책에는 그와 관련된 30장면의 문헌과 지도들이 실려 있다. 동북아역사재단은 독도 관련 자료를 지속적으로 발굴하고, 독도가 한국 땅이라는 진실을 국내외에 널리 홍보할 계획이다. 『자료로 보는 우리 땅 독도 30장면』을 통해서 우리 땅 독도의 소중함을 되새기는 계기가 되기를 바란다. | ||
