The 2008 Korea-China Conference on Koguryo History with the focus on the Jolbon Period was held at the Silla Hotel Jeju for three days from November 11, 2008 under the co-hostship of the Northeast Asia History Foundation and the Chinese Borderland Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

In the second one after the one held in Beijing in December 2007, leading historians of the two countries (i.e. 18 from Korea and 15 from China) were engaged in presentations and debates concerning the history of early Koguryo and exchanged friendship,

Ten these were presented on five subjects concerning the Jolbon Period of the Koguryo Dynasty. The two sides shared the view that the use of archaeological materials is important in the study of the history of Koguryo and the gap in their view can be bridged through continued academic exchanges.

During the session, the two sides showed acute difference in views concerning the foundation of Koguryo, the relation between Koguryo and Koguryo-hyeon, and the pre-Koguryo foundation situation (such as Biryu).

It is noteworthy that the attendees shed light on the political, social and cultural characteristics of the early Koguryo Dynasty and shared the view that the Jolbon Period was a very important period in the history of the kingdom.
