The Foundation held the 16th Dokdo Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 23, in the main conference hall.At this year’s ceremony, the late Professor Cheol-ho Han (Department of History Education, Dongguk University) was honored with the Dokdo Academic Award, while the Japanese civic group “Association for Rethinking Takeshima Day” (represented by Jo Gil-bu) received the Dokdo Love Award in the organizational category.
The Foundation stated that the research of the late Professor Han, recipient of the Dokdo Academic Award, “not only strengthened the academic foundation for Dokdo studies, but will also serve as a valuable asset for future efforts to defend Korea’s sovereignty over Dokdo and in historical education.”The Association for Rethinking “Takeshima” Day, which received the Dokdo Love Award in the organizational category, was highly praised by the Foundation for “consistently promoting messages in support of Korea’s sovereignty over Dokdo within Japan.”
Secretary-General Yong-Sang Chung of the Foundation remarked,
“I hope today’s ceremony will help spread awareness of the awardees’ dedication and that the Korean people’s continued interest and affection will further strengthen the will to protect Dokdo.”He added,“The Foundation will continue to hold the Dokdo Awards annually to encourage academic research and public affection for Dokdo, and will keep putting the love for Dokdo into practice through a variety of activities.”
