The Foundation held the 2025 Dokdo Research Institute Colloquium on Thursday, October 23, in the main conference hall under the theme “A Historical Reflection on 120 Years of Japan’s Encroachment on Dokdo.”
The colloquium was organized to shed focused historical light on Japan’s long-standing attempts to seize Dokdo.
Commemorating the 125th anniversary of Imperial Ordinance No. 41 of the Korean Empire, the event consisted of three sessions, featuring four thematic presentations, designated discussions, and a comprehensive panel debate.
The first session featured two presentations examining “Korea and Japan’s Perception of Dokdo after the Ulleungdo Dispute.”
The second session addressed “The Geopolitical and International Legal Issues Surrounding Dokdo.”
Finally, the third session brought together experts for a comprehensive discussion on Japan’s historical encroachment on Dokdo.
Secretary-General Yong-Sang Jung of the Foundation stated,
“This colloquium aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the 120-year history of Japan’s encroachment on Dokdo and to explore potential strategies for addressing future issues related to the island.”
