A Comparative Study of Lunar August 15th Festivals : Korea's Chuseok and Japan's Tsukimi
On the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, various East Asian countries have celebrated this
period meaningfully. In Korea, it is known as Chuseok (秋夕), in China as Zhongqiu (中
秋), and in Japan as Tsukimi (月見). The Chinese term highlights the autumn season, the
Japanese term focuses on the act of moon-viewing, and the Korean term encompasses
both aspects. This article compares Korea's Chuseok and Japan's Tsukimi.
