The 22.4-centimeter-high relic was excavated at a Koguryo tomb near Pyeongyang, North Korea. Three short legs that are narrow in the middle support the jar’s cylindrical body and the mouth is raised to fit the lid. A pair of thin lines are each engraved around the body's upper and midsection.
On the center of the light-brown lid is a knob in the shape of a lotus bud. The rim of lid has been sculpted into vertical design. Koguryo pottery with legs are rare, but some similar to the jar have also been discovered at Koguryo remains in the earthen fortress Mongchontoseong and the fortification at Achasan along the Han River basin. The featured relic is likely to have been a burial accessory or was used during ceremonial rites.
