The Foundation held a seminar titled “Japan’s Political Realignment and the Challenges for Korea–Japan Relations—The Persistence of Historical Disputes and the Possibility of Adjustment” on Friday, December 19, 2025, in the Foundation’s medium conference room. The seminar was organized to analyze how structural changes in Japan’s domestic politics and diplomacy affect Korea–Japan relations and conflicts over historical perceptions.
The seminar consisted of a presentation and a discussion. Oh Tae-gyu (Visiting Researcher, Institute for Japanese Studies, Seoul National University) delivered a presentation on “Japan’s Political Realignment and the Challenges for Korea–Japan Relations—The Persistence of Historical Disputes and the Possibility of Adjustment.” The subsequent discussion brought together researchers from the Northeast Asian History Foundation and Oh Seung-hee (Korea National Diplomatic Academy). Through an in-depth analysis of the reconfiguration of Japan’s political and diplomatic landscape, the seminar served as an opportunity to further specify the structure and trajectory of historical disputes between Korea and Japan.
