Celebrating Dokdo Museum Seoul's Sixth Anniversary
After opening on September 14, 2012 as the only museum about Dokdo located in a metropolitan area, Dokdo Museum Seoul celebrated its sixth anniversary by hosting the "Six Dokdo Stories" program throughout September 2018. Groups of families visiting the museum were particularly eager to participate in the program's six different events that involved posting pictures of their visit on social media, taking a quiz about Dokdo, writing postcards to officers guarding Dokdo, creating newspaper articles about Dokdo, making Dokdo-themed key chains, and watching the animation "Gangchi the Dokdo Guard." The museum also extended its visiting hours until nine o'clock on September 14 and offered a special lecture in the evening by NAHF Research fellow Hong Seong-keun on "Meeting Dokdo in Seoul." Having welcomed around 230,000 visitors over the past six years, Dokdo Museum Seoul has settled down as the place to visit in Seoul for anyone who wishes to learn about the Korean island Dokdo.

International Seminar on the Tenth Anniversary of the Comfort Women Monument on Miyako Island
On September 8th and 9th, NAHF jointly held an international symposium with Korean and Japanese civic societies to celebrate the installation of monuments memorializing Japanese military comfort women at the islands Naha (那覇) and Miyako (宮古島) of Japan's Okinawa prefecture. Okinawa is a prefecture that had already been aware of the comfort women issue since the 1970s. Local residents who personally witnessed Korean comfort women during the war joined efforts with Korean and Japanese citizens and scholars willing to help memorialize comfort women victims by installing the monuments in 2008. At the recent symposium held under the theme "Rethinking the Japanese Military Comfort Women Issue on the Ten Anniversary of the Arirang Monument on Miyako Island“ began with NAHF President Kim Do-hyung's welcoming address and was followed by two sessions where NAHF Research fellow Park Jung-ae presented alongside other participants. Discussions for each session were each moderated by NAHF research fellows Seo Hyun-ju and Doh See-hwan.
