Kim Seong-gyeong, Department of International Studies at Korea University
I applied for a leave of absence from school because of Covid-19. It wasn't in my plan. Then I applied to online supporters recruited by NAHF. Through this activity, I became confident about new challenges and I became passionate about learning. I tried my own way and continued my activities as an online supporter, and I grew up. I would like to thank Shin Jung-won of NAHF for leading online supporters. I had a lot of experiences. I posted history-themed content on NAHF's blog every month, visited historic sites, covered events held by NAHF, and became the host of programs broadcast on YouTube.
When I applied for online supporters, I wanted to find a realistic answer to the historical conflict. I covered the seminar site and saw the NGOs and NAHF researchers working to resolve the historical conflict. In particular, ‘The Expert Seminar on Industrial Heritage Information Center’ held by NAHF was an event to review the problems with the Japanese industrial facilities during the Meiji period and to seek countermeasures against that. I realized the importance of correct historical awareness.
Meanwhile, I wrote a post on NAHF's blog about sexual slavery victims for the Japanese imperial army, and I learned about the documents related to them that have not been well known. Without steady research and attention, it would still be outside our interests and forgotten. And I'm also stunned to think that we may not have had any real evidence to support the victim's testimony. Through these experiences, I realized that efforts to resolve historical conflicts are essential.
Thanks to NAHF for making this rewarding experience. I expect more people to participate in NAHF with interest. I will always support NAHF with my heart.
Seon Ji-hyun, Department of Literature and Information at Chung-Ang University
I am Seon Ji-hyun who worked as an online supporter of NAHF. I can't believe we've already celebrated the new year of 2021. For me, 2020 was a very meaningful year because I had a lot of good memories as an online supporter of NAHF.
The most memorable activity was the introduction of history-related books on NAHF's blog, and the posting on various themes. It was really fun to tell many people about the books written about the statue of a goddess, the Baekdu Mountain, Goguryeo, and the ethnic minority of China, ewenke. It was also a new experience to work with NAHF's researchers on a program that was exposed to YouTube. Thank you for the efforts of the production company and the director who gave me a generous support to write the script and demonstrate my ability as a host.
I think one of the biggest benefits for supporters is 'visiting historical sites'. I went to Gwangju, South Jeolla Province. I felt very different from Gwangju which I visited as a travel destination in the past, and Gwangju which I visited to find traces of history. Personally, the most impressive place was ‘The May 18 Democratic Uprising Archives’ which preserved Geumnamro at the time of May 18. If you are planning to travel to Gwangju in the future, please visit the archive.
I had many memories and good experiences. I would like to thank Shin Jung-won for her active advice and encouragement when I am worried about contents. Thank you for watching the activities of online supporters over the past seven months and enjoying our postings.
Chung Joon-young, Department of Education at Hongik University
I wanted to be an online supporter of NAHF because I was interested in history of Northeast Asia by studying history education at university. I covered NAHF's educational program on Dokdo, projects and events on history of Northeast Asia. Through these activities, I learned deeply about the history of Northeast Asia and NAHF.
I visited the elementary school participating in the 'Dokdo School of KOREA', an education program supported by NAHF, and attended the class. I also attended the conference held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the discovery of square stone at Cheonjeonri, and I was able to understand deeply from the discovery to the recent research results. And I learned the flow of history education around the world through the books published by NAHF while making content to promote NAHF.
I am sorry that I can not do more various activities due to Covid-19. But it was an opportunity to cover various projects and events that were going on in my hometown. I am interested in various studies of NAHF in the future. All college students in history departments, I highly recommend you to act as an online supporter of NAHF!
