The surrounding countries have shaken the identity of Korean history and the territorial sovereignty has been challenged. Then, a social consensus began to be formed that in order to solve the problems that occurred between Korea-Japan, and Korea-China, an organization should be established to respond systematically to them. At that time, the president accepted the public interest and request and ordered in March 2005 that a permanently dedicated organization should be established to respond in the mid- to long-term when other countries distort the history of our country.

As a result, NAHF has been conducting projects to solve historical issues, policy development, and academic research on history in Northeast Asia such as Korea, China and Japan and Dokdo issues since its launch on September 22, 2006. NAHF has tried to establish a balanced historical view by accurately identifying historical facts and to create historical discourse.

In addition, NAHF opened the Cyber ​​Dokdo History Museum on August 15, 2007, and opened the Dokdo Research Institute in 2008, and opened the Dokdo Museum Seoul on September 14, 2012. Currently, Dokdo Museum Seoul is preparing to expand and relocate to Time Square in Yeongdeungpo. Now NAHF pays attention to the changes in Northeast Asia and tries to fulfill responsibilities based on our achievements and experiences. In particular, we will promote the achievements of NAHF to the international community through active academic exchanges. As a think tank studying history, we try to wisely resolve the historical and cultural conflicts of East Asia. And we will focus on improving the level of research and developing policies that can establish the foundation of peace in East Asia.
