At the end of this year, we will publish a white paper analyzing the business of the past 15 years and future tasks, and make it an opportunity to leap again. The publication of 『Diplomatic Document in Korea
: Claim for Japan's Compensation』
NAHF will publish 40 books on the series of references related to the Korea-Japan talks in order to understand the whole of the Korea-Japan talks based on objective data and to reveal how the key issues were discussed. 『Diplomatic Document in Korea: Claim for Japan's Compensation』 published this time is the first achievement of the project. This book published the original text of 1954 (total 523 pages), and added explanations to the difficult contents so that it could be easily used by researchers and the general public.
『The Peace Treaty with Japan on Korea』(1951) was written to supplement the legal aspect of the treaty. This proved that the Japan-Korea Annexation Treaty of 1910 was illegal and invalid, and sought to compensate for the damage caused by colonial rule. This shows that the Korean government was not appealing emotionally, but rather trying to solve the issue of compensation for Japan based on thorough and clear evidence and logic.
On the other hand, the claim of the individual is related to Part 2: Confirmed claim, Part 3: Human, material damage caused by Sino-Japanese War and Pacific War, Part 4: damage caused by low-cost exploitation conducted by the Japanese government. The Korean government has expanded the scope of compensation compared to the claim negotiations. So the government demanded compensation for school facilities, labor, and products in South Korea as well as pensions for soldiers and civilian attached to the military. The series of references to be published in the future will reveal the following details. How the demands of compensation for Japan change in the 'Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea'.
