UC Berkeley-NAHF Seminar on Historical and Security Issues in East Asia

Implications of Peace and Conflict,"the UC Berkeley Center for Korean Studies, a unit of the university’s Institute of East Asian Studies, and the Northeast Asian History Foundation jointly held a seminar at the University of California, Berkeley. The seminar was attended by the NAHF President Kim Ho-sup, Professor Ha Young-sun at Seoul National University, Professor Hyun In-taek at Korea University, Professor Kim Han-kwon at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, Professor Kevin O’Brien at UC Berkeley, Professor Daniel C. Sneider at Stanford University, and Dr. Choi Woon-do, director of the NAHF Institute of Japanese Studies.

 

Public-Private Joint Cooperation Committee Held First Meeting

The "Public-Private Joint Cooperation Committee" (hereinafter the Cooperation Committee) has been organized for the purpose of effectively responding to misconceptions about Korea or distortions regarding Korean history that exist outside Korea. The Cooperation Committee’s first meeting was held at the NAHF grand conference hall on March 30, 2016. Participating in the Cooperation Committee are public institutions such as the Northeast Asian History Foundation, the National Institute for International Education, NGOs such as the Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK), and academic societies including as the Korean Geographic Society. The Cooperation Committee plans to regularly join forces to uncover voluntary efforts made by civilians to correct misconceptions about Korea, assist governmental efforts to systematically monitor and respond to such misconceptions, and develop channels to increase positive descriptions about Korea overseas.

 

Events Held for the First Week of Dokdo Education

Various events were held between April 11 and 15 of 2016 to celebrate the first"Week of Dokdo Eudcation." Dokdo Museum Seoul prepared several different programs as well as plenty of gifts for its visitors. In front of the museum, a special exhibition running until June 30, 2016 was installed to display old maps from Korea or overseas that are related to Dokdo. In addition to the regular program "Museum Director of the Day," special programs such as making models of Dokdo and puppet shows were also offered.
