On October 25, NAHF presented Dokdo Concert to commemorate the start of Dokdo Museum Seoul's expansion and relocate on Naver TV. The concert was directed by singer Kim Jang-hoon. Meanwhile, Choi Un-do(chief of office of education and public relations) and Hong Sung-geun(researcher) reported the performance of the Dokdo Museum Seoul and future plans. And it was attended by Kim Jang-hoon, Yoon Do-hyun, Kwon In-ha, Minyo Jamae, Lee Chang-hyun and the Guardians Of Dokdo. The whole nation has sent expectations and encouragement to the change of the Dokdo Museum Seoul.

Gojong approves the Korean Empire Edict No.41 on October 25, 1900

The Korean Empire voted on the Korean Empire Edict No.41 on October 24 at the Uijeongbu meeting. This is the statement of Dokdo as an annex of Ulleungdo. It was approved by Gojong on the 25th of the same month and posted on the 27th in the official gazette and informed it at home and abroad. In the early 2000s, Japan distorted the history of Korea. Therefore, the Korean government has taken various measures to strengthen the sovereignty of territory and sea. Civic groups promoted a campaign to commemorate October 25 as ‘Dokdo Day’. NAHF has designated the week including October 25 as 'Northeast Asian History and Territory Week' and holds various events including academic conferences. The Dokdo concert was held on October 25, known as ‘Dokdo Day’.

The Expansion and Relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul with the People

Dokdo Museum Seoul is a new concept museum founded on September 14, 2012 by the Ministry of Education and NAHF to convey correct information about Dokdo. This was a space that allowed children and adolescents to experience Dokdo. And it was an educational site that informed Dokdo as a legitimate territory of the Republic of Korea in historical, geographical and international law. Since 2014, several Dokdo Museums have been established; run by the Office of Education in each region. NAHF is participating in the establishment of museums in Gwangju, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Sejong, Chungnam, Ulsan, Jeju and Gangwon, and renewal projects in Gyeongnam, Chungbuk, Daejeon and Incheon. At the same time, the Dokdo Museum Seoul leads experience-oriented education and continues to accumulate results. The need for expansion and relocation has been steadily raised. In November 2020, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, announced its intention to provide NAHF with a part of the space in Times Square free of charge. Based on this active support from the National Assembly and the government, a budget of 4 billion was confirmed. So the expansion and relocation project of the Dokdo Museum Seoul began.

NAHF and Kim Jang-hoon organized a Dokdo Concert

Kim Jang-hoon has proposed many ideas for the expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul as well as promoting various activities of NAHF. The company responsible for the expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul was set in July. We thought that if we speed up the basic design, we will be able to report to the people the new Dokdo Museum Seoul on August 15th. However, there were many variables to consider, including Covid-19, and inevitably held a concert in October. In order to share the joy with many people who showed interest in the expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul, we promoted the concert from the planning stage to the non-face-to-face. Moreover, it was a great fortune that we were able to broadcast live on Naver TV for two hours from 8:30 pm on October 25, ‘Dokdo Day’. The announcement of just one minute and a half seconds, which was sent five days before the broadcast, raised expectations for everyone.

263,219 likes, 3,684 comments, 8,189 people together

The Dokdo concert was divided into two parts. In the first part, we described the progress of the project on the expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul. And we have heard about various episodes by connecting Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University, an expert promoting Korea. In the second part, Kim Jang-hoon, Yoon Do-hyun, Kwon In-ha, Minyo Jamae and Lee Chang-hyun performed.

The songs that received the greatest response at this concert were 'Dokdo is Korean Land' and 'Sanoramyeon'. There were 8,189 visitors, 263,219 likes and 3,684 comments. The moment was touching. We all recalled the meaning of Dokdo in our hearts and became one. And it was a precious time to look forward to the new Dokdo Museum Seoul to open next March.

NAHF completed its report to the public 11 months after the expansion and relocation project of the Dokdo Museum Seoul began. In the future, NAHF will continue to make efforts for Dokdo, the easternmost island of Korea. We are going to make a better Dokdo Museum Seoul based on the public interest. We hope to continue to be interested in the Dokdo Museum Seoul.
