2021 Northeast Asian History and Territory Week
NAHF designated the week from October 20 to 27 as 'Northeast Asian History and Territory Week' and conducted various academic events, education and experience programs. Since its inception in 2006, we have conducted long-term and comprehensive research on historical issues and Dokdo-related issues in Northeast Asia and systematically and strategically developed policies. Through this, we have established the correct history and laid the foundation for peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia. Currently, we run 'Northeast Asian History and Territory Week' to share performance and strengthen communication.
On October 20, we released music and music videos titled ‘ISLAND’ to help people understand Dokdo and to create content that everyone enjoys. And on October 25, we released a video on YouTube promoting Ulleungdo and Dokdo. It was filmed with YouTube entertainer Kim Gye-ran, and was produced with the support of Ulleung-Gun Office and Gyeongbuk Provincial Police. On the other hand, a concert to celebrate the expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul was broadcast live on Naver TV.
On the morning of the last day, October 27, the Awards Ceremony for the 3nd Book Review Contest on Educational Books was held. The book review contest is intended to encourage citizens and adolescents to read books about history and to attract interest in history issues. In addition, the Dokdo Colloquium was held under the theme of 'Cooperation between Dokdo research institutes and ways to revitalize interdisciplinary research' to check the current status and tasks of Dokdo research. We hope that this Northeast Asian History and Territory Week will be an opportunity to recall the history and meaning of Dokdo.
The Forum on Wednesday: Silk Road, and 'Belt and Road Initiative'
NAHF hosted the forum on Wednesday, inviting Min Byung-hoon, the director of the Asian department of the National Museum of Korea, on November 10. The theme was ‘Silk Road, and Belt and Road Initiative’. He said Asia is a complex and diverse world of historical and geographical pluralism, and the pluralism of the people, religion and language that constitutes it is evidence. He also said that there are many cultures in Asia that should be considered with great weight.
Belt and Road Initiative policy is a way to implement 'Chinese dream' aimed at the top of the world. However, it is linked to the reorganization of the world's politics, economy and military order, and is closely related to Korea's politics, economy, environment and culture. Therefore, it is time to establish policies and macroscopic responses to the history, language, economy, culture, and environment of the New Silk Road, which connects East Asia, Europe, South Asia and Africa. To this end, we should train experts who can systematically collect and analyze related data and build a specialized archive.
Silk Road has had a profound impact on the improvement and development of cultures around the world, which has been linked to our lives and future since ancient Korea. In the future, comprehensive measures at the government level should be established, such as the systematic operation and expansion of functions of specialized research institutes dedicated to 'Belt and Road Initiative' issues.
『Territory and Seas』 was promoted to the National Research Foundation of Korea's Registered Journal
The 『Territory and Seas』 published by NAHF was promoted to Registered Journal in an evaluation conducted by the National Research Foundation of Korea in 2021. 『Territory and Seas』 was named as a candidate for the list in 2018. Since then, qualitative management has been conducted through rigorous screening and interdisciplinary evaluation. As a result, it was finally promoted to the list in this evaluation. This is an academic achievement in the first decade of its founding, and it has been recognized as a professional journal in the field of territory and seas. The goal of 『Territory and Seas』 is to protect territorial sovereignty over Dokdo which is Korea's own territory, to expand the notation of the East Sea in the international community, and to promote related research and achievements. 『Territory and Seas』 consists of special topics, general papers, commentary on historical resources, introduction of resources, and book reviews. It has been evaluated as having secured diversity by publishing high-quality papers in various fields such as history, geography, international law, and international politics. If the quality of the paper is continuously improved and maintained in the future, it will be selected as an excellent registered journal. The journal is published twice a year(June and December every year), and the paper is available for free access or download by anyone on the website of KCI, NAHF, and Dokdo Research Institute and Nuri Media.
