I am Chang Won-sam, the 8th Secretary General of NAHF. NAHF is a national research institute established in September 2006 for the development of research and policies on Northeast Asia's history and Dokdo, and for peaceful and co-prosperous East Asia.
NAHF has experienced various challenges. But NAHF has overcome its difficulties by advancing and achieving in research and projects in the territories, oceans and history sectors. This is the result of the dedicated efforts of former and current NAHF members.
Today, the East Asian region is experiencing an unprecedented expansion of human, economic and cultural exchanges. On the other hand, territorial and historical conflicts are getting worse. Deep-rooted historical issues are a stumbling block to cooperation and coexistence among neighboring countries.
In this respect, the mission of NAHF is very important. On the other hand, NAHF has an ideal to overcome historical conflicts and achieve historical reconciliation. It requires greater wisdom, reflection, change, and innovation. NAHF is no stranger to me. When I was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I was in charge of the NAHF. And I think it's very meaningful to be working with you as the secretary general.
I want to emphasize three things based on my public life. The first is creative thinking. Change and innovation are possible when you get out of old-fashioned ways of thinking and attitudes. The second is the timing of performing the task. Even good research and policies are not judged properly without timeliness. Finally, it's an effort to communicate. Finally, it is an effort to communicate.
Let's take a leap forward with the past years as a stepping stone. Let's try to change and innovate. I will also actively work as a member of NAHF. I hope NAHF will become a global think tank. Thank you.
