Opening Ceremony for Second Class of Junior Docents at the Dokdo Experience Center

On April 20, a ceremony to launch the second class of junior docents at the Dokdo Experience Center took place in the Foundation’s conference room. The ceremony was an event held to declare the start of the 13 junior docents’ duties, all of whom received certificates of appointment after completing their training courses. Thirteen elementary and middle school students were selected as junior docents after going through an interview process and audition. They completed training programs such as listening to lectures by Dokdo specialists, learning expertise for explaining exhibitions, changing lyrics of the song, “Dokdo Is Our Land,” and writing their own scripts. The junior docents will perform tours while explaining the exhibits and other various activities in order to publicize Dokdo at the Dokdo Experience Center on the weekends until December.




Publishing of “Korea-Japan Historical Issues Seen through 20 Topics”

The Foundation published, “Korea-Japan Historical Issues Seen through 20 Topics,” planned out of the need to objectively understand the historical problems between the two countries. The book academically discusses 20 controversial historical issues between Korea and Japan, from ancient to modern times. A total of 19 experts took part in the complication of the book and dealt with important issues like Imnailbonbu, the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, forced mobilization under Japanese occupation, the 1965 Korea-Japan Treaty, Japanese military comfort women, and Yasukuni Shrine. 









Operation of Programs to Commemorate Family Month at the Dokdo Experience Center

The Foundation’s Dokdo Experience Center hosted a variety of family programs to celebrate May, the Month of Family. These programs included a weekend giveaway of balloons featuring a painting of a sea lion to young visitors, an activity for writing thank you cards to Dokdo Guards, and experience activities like making of Dokdo badges and contour models. On May 19, the center hosted the program, “The Dokdo that I Draw, with Painter Lee Jong-sang,” which generated a great, positive response. Finished drawings will be on display at the entrance of the Dokdo Experience Center. The Foundation will continue to develop diverse experience programs that can be appreciated at the Dokdo Experience Center in order to help generate love for Dokdo and to offer a place in which families can create pleasant memories.




Dokdo Guardian School’s Visit to Dokdo in 2019

The Foundation hosted a program that allowed 140 teachers and students from the 2019 Dokdo Guardian Schools to visit Dokdo and Ulleungdo in two groups. The first group visited from May 18-21 and the second group visited from May 25-28. A total of 120 schools – 35 elementary schools, 45 middle schools, and 40 high schools – have been selected as the 2019 Dokdo Guardian Schools as part of efforts to support education and experience activities surrounding Dokdo for the sake of the country’s future generations. Each of the Dokdo Guardian Schools hosted an opening ceremony during Dokdo Education Week in April to mark the start of their Dokdo club activities. The Foundation’s blog features the results of such activities.
