Session on ‘Modern inheritance of the March 1st Movement and International Order’ held in the 14th Jeju Forum
The Foundation hosted a session of diplomacy and security under the theme of “modern inheritance of the March 1st Movement and international order” on May 29 during the 14th Jeju Forum (theme: Asia Towards Resilient Peace: Cooperation and Integration) held at the Jeju International Convention Center May 29-31. Seoul National University professor Park Myung-kyu, Waseda University professor Toyomi Asano, Hong Kong Shue Yan University professor Eou Chikin, and Foundation researcher Shin Hyo-seung made presentations in the session chaired by Foundation president Kim Do-hyung, and Choi Un-do, another researcher with the Foundation, moderated the debate. The session was a time for evaluating changes in perceptions about international order such as imperialism, the principle of national self-determination and decolonization experienced by the international community in the last century, and predicting the future.
2019 field trip to Dokdo and Ulleungdo by Dokdo PR Council
The Foundation’s Dokdo Research Institute organized a field trip to Dokdo and Ulleungdo in 2019 through the Dokdo PR Council, for three days and two nights from June 11. The Dokdo PR Council is a Dokdo PR-related consultative body comprised of 16 agencies, with 15 government departments including the officer in charge of Dokdo affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Dokdo Research Institute. This year’s team of 20 members is evaluated to raise understanding related to Dokdo and to reinforce networks for business cooperation through their trip to Ulleungdo and Dokdo.
History book of culture for overseas Koreans, published in Korean and English
The Foundation has published the revised editions of the history cultural book ‘First Steps toward Korean History’ in Korean and in English to help raise awareness of history and to spread our accurate history for ethnic Koreans abroad. This book narrates stories concerning our people from ancient times when Korean history began until the modern and present era, along with photos featured chronologically and for each case. It is hoped that this will contribute to arousing interest in Korean history among our fellow Koreans. This book will be distributed to Koreans across the world through both online and offline channels.
Workshop held for Foundation staff in first half of 2019,
and donation delivered to victims of fire in Gangwon-do
The Foundation held a two-day workshop from June 3 in Sokcho, Gangwon-do Province, which suffered a devastating forest fire, to look for ways to enhance unity among staff and to develop the Foundation. During the workshop attended by all staff including Foundation president Kim Do-hyung and secretary general Cho Tae-yong, there were ceremonies to pledge integrity and to proclaim management based on human rights as well as compulsory education related to sexual harassment and violence. Our staffers visited the monument for the March 1st Movement in Yangyang and conducted environmental protection activities by collecting garbage in the Daepo Port and Naksansa Temple. Meanwhile, the Foundation delivered KRW 1.2 million to the Korea Disaster Relief Association to support victims of the massive forest fire in Gangwon-do Province in April and to help speed disaster recovery. The donation will be used to set up emergency accommodations for victims in the disaster-stricken areas, restore damaged buildings, and support the livelihood of the victims including through relief goods.
