Shimane Prefecture, Japan, celebrates “Takeshima Day” on February 22 every year. Shimane Prefecture established "Takeshima Day” in 2005 on the 100th anniversary of the announcement of the so-called “Territorial Incorporation of Dokdo Island” during the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. Since then, Japan has persistently repeated false claims about Dokdo Island. In response, the foundation's Dokdo Research Institute held a Dokdo Symposium on February 28 on the theme of the 'New Direction in Dokdo Research Explored through Excavation Data.' It served as an opportunity to point out Japan's false claims and broaden the scope of studies on Dokdo further through domestic and foreign materials prepared from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
