Centennial of the March First Movement and the Korean Provisional Government‘s Establishment

Having lost their sovereignty and becoming increasingly engulfed by Japan's colonial rule, Koreans channeled all their efforts toward resisting imperialism. The year of 2019 marks the centennial of the March First Movement through which Koreans engaged in a nationwide protest for independence and established a provisional government. The Northeast Asian History Foundation will therefore strive to commemorate the historical meaning and significance of the March First Movement as a non-violent, revolutionary movement. The Foundation will also review the past one hundred years since the Republic of Korea inherited the legitimacy of the Korean Provisional Government as it searches for clues to establish a system of peace in Northeast Asia.
