Awards ceremony held for Dokdo Keepers School program
The Foundation held their awards ceremony for excellent schools in its 2019 Dokdo Keepers School program on December 5 in the conference room. The Foundation screened 120 elementary, middle, and high schools designated for the program, and selected 24 excellent schools. The awards ceremony for excellent Dokdo Keepers schools began in 2016, and has contributed to raising students' understanding and interest in Dokdo by supporting creative and autonomous club activities. Teachers and students of 19 schools, including the grand prize winning Changsin Elementary School in Incheon and Imun High School in Daejeon, participated in the awards ceremony and shared in the delight of the awards. Along with the awards ceremony, there were presentations about club activities by the grand prize winners and lectures to learn about Dokdo's diverse ecosystem. The accomplishments of the Dokdo clubs of the 120 schools can be found on the Foundation's home page. Applications for the 2020 Dokdo Keepers School program will be received from late February to early March.
2019 on-the-job training for teachers of East Asian history
The Foundation hosted the 2020 on-the-job training for teachers of East Asian history in Taiwan for four days from December 11 to 14. The training program had a schedule to tour Taipei, Taichung, and Keelung in Taiwan, during which 16 teachers who had completed the Foundation's intensive training program for East Asian history visited historic sites and took time for learning. Their itinerary included visiting Taiwan's historic sites related to modern and contemporary history, including the 228 Peace Park, National Taiwan Museum, and Sun Yat Sen Memorial House.
They also visited the AMA Museum, Taiwan's memorial hall for comfort women, to learn about the comfort women of the Japanese military in Taiwan, and made a field investigation of historic sites related to independence activist Cho Myung-ha. Professor Kim Sang-ho of Hsiuping University of Science and Technology was invited to speak on the independence movement of patriot Cho Myung-ha. This session of on-the-job training included lively education programs. The Foundation will continue to make persistent efforts to activate education on East Asian history.
