House-shaped Pottery

House-shaped Pottery

Said to have been uncovered at Pyeongyang, South Pyeongan Province, the featured relic is 8.3 centimeters tall, 7.1 centimeters long, and 14.1 centimeters wide. The pottery shaped into a square building has a corrugated roof with tiles laid in evenly spaced furrows.

On the upper part of the building’s wall are two round holes each about two centimeters wide, and boring right between them is another hole in the shape of a square, about one centimeter wide. The three holes supposedly represent two windows and a door. There is also a round hole with a diameter of 2.4 centimeters boring through the floor that goes 4-5 centimeters deep. The purpose of this hole remains unclear, but seems to indicate that the pottery itself has probably been made as a burial good to be placed inside a grave.
