2009

The wooden lion guarding the Dokdo Research Institute

A representation of the legendary wooden lions that General Isabu used to conquer the kingdom Usanguk 1,500 years ago in 512. The sculpture by Cho Seung-woo won silver prize at the Isabu Festival hosted by the city of Samcheok in 2009. The city donated the wooden lion to NAHF, which has since been touring nationwide to wherever an exhibition related to Dokdo is held.

2010

Round-the-clock live feed of Dokdo

On December 16, 2010, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) installed a monitor on the NAHF office building's first floor to provide a high-definition quality live feed of Dokdo round-the-clock. Another monitor was installed in 2018 at the Story of King Sejong exhibition room in Gwanghwamun square to provide broader access to the live feed.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission listed the Dokdo Research Institute's website among those recommended for youths.

Film "Finding Sea Lion" produced by NAHF

The 70-minute long independent documentary that took Director Cho Han-seon 18 months to produce features a story about b-boys who embark on a search for sea lions that used to live around the island Dokdo.

Dokdo Museum Seoul

NAHF opened Dokdo Museum Seoul, the first museum about the island to be located in a metropolitan area of Korea. Among those who attended the opening ceremony were Singer Kim Jang-hoon who has been active in promoting issues involving Dokdo and Professor Rim Young-jung, an expert on Dokdo research. To the far left in the photo is the Foundation's current president Kim Do-hyung who served as head of the Foundation's advisory committee at the time.

Two regular academic journals

In 2011, the journal "Territory and Seas" was launched to specifically cover academic studies on territorial and maritime issues. In 2014, the Journal of Territorial and Maritime Studies was launched to facilitate communication with scholars overseas on East Asian territorial and maritime issues. Both journals are published biannually.





 

 




"Ten Truths About Dokdo Not Known in Japan" in ten different languages

The booklet "Ten Truths About Dokdo Not Known in Japan" has been published since 2011 to refute each argument for Japanese sovereignty over Dokdo posted on the Japanese Foreign Ministry's website. The booklet has since been translated and distributed in ten different languages including English, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic.

Foreign Correspondents Covering Dokdo

In 2008 and 2012, Dokdo Research Institute facilitated visits to Dokdo for reporters of major media outlets based in the United States, Britain, Germany, and France. After visiting the island, reports about Dokdo have been featured by CNN, BBC, the Washington Post, and the New York Times.

President Moon Jae-in's Visit to Kim Jung-man's Photo Exhibition

In the summer of 2014, President Moon Jae-in, a lawmaker at the time, personally visited the exhibition "Dokdo-ri, Ulleung-eup, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea" featuring photos of Dokdo taken by Kim Jung-man at the gallery of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. He quietly looked around and left the words "I'm sorry Dokdo" in the guest book.

Dokdo Museum Seoul's 90,000th visitor

After two and a half years since its opening in September 2012, Dokdo Museum Seoul welcomed its 90,000th visitor on March 17, 2015. With her family, the 90,000th visitor Kim Oak-ja attended the welcoming celebration the Foundation held where she received a ticket to visit Dokdo.

Dokdo Research Institute has been developing and distributing offline and online textbooks titled "Getting Dokdo Right" and "Activity Book on Dokdo" to be used at elementary, middle and high schools throughout Korea.
