Primorsky Krai Area in Japan’s Colonial Period and Koreans’ Activity

1

Russia's Primorsky Krai area was the center of the independence movement against Japan from the late Joseon period through 1922. Particularly before World War I broke out, the area showed the most active national movement at home and abroad, and was also no less likely than elsewhere before and after the March First Independence Movement.

As a result, Primorsky Krai was the first to form a government organization called the "Korean National Council" among independence movement forces at home and abroad; based on this, it became an integral part of Korean national movement history by launching the March First Independence Movement. As the Korea-Russia cultural exchange gained traction after the collapse of the former Soviet Union, much of the national movement history in the Primorsky Krai area has now come to light.
