<Open the Dokdo Exhibition Hall in Gwanghwamun>
NAHF received a free use permit from the Seoul Metropolitan Government in October last year to use the underground exhibition space of Gwanghwamun Station as the Dokdo Exhibition Hall for three years. Last year, visitors were visited by the "East Sea and Dokdo map exhibition"(approximately 10,000 visitors for about three months), but earlier this year NAHF's internal and external experts participated in the project to re-open Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall and re-organize it with new content on February 28.
Recently, COVID-19 has banned the Gwanghwamun area rally, and the ‘social distance’ campaign has been implemented, and the number of visitors to Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall has also decreased significantly. However, I hope that COVID-19 will be over as soon as possible and many people will come to see the contents of the newly constructed Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall. Prior to that, I would like to introduce Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall, which was reopened through the newsletter.
<Dokdo is the precious territory of Korea that we should cultivate and preserve>
Dokdo Museum Seoul in Seodaemun provides various information and experience activities programs for Dokdo. In order to provide basic information about Dokdo to visitors to Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall, it was planned to inform the history of Dokdo, the international community's awareness of Dokdo, the management of our government, and the protection of Dokdo at the private level.
The first part, <the Dokdo part, which was the subsidiary of Ulleungdo from the old days> provides information on "SejongSillok jiliji", which contains a record of "We can see Dokdo at 87.4km away from Ulleungdo", Dokdo photographs taken in Ulleungdo, and various literatures and maps of Korea and Japan.
The second part, <Ulleungdo and Dokdo management of the Joseon government> deals with Ulleungdo and Dokdo-related policies of the Joseon government(Ulleungdo pioneering order, Sutokwan), and informs the Korean Empire Edict 41, which declared Dokdo to be our territory outside of Korea. In addition, this part shows the fact that Japan illegally invaded Ulleungdo and the fact that it invaded Dokdo.
In the third part <Dokdo is the territory of the Republic of Korea>, it explains the fact that the international community recognized Dokdo as a Korean territory after the war and the various activities of the Korean government and the private sector for the protection of Dokdo.
<People in the Dokdo Chronicles>
Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall is planning a special exhibition to attract visitors. After the reopening, it introduces various people related to Dokdo. The story of General Isabu who conquered Usanguk(an old name for Ulleungdo) for the peace of the East Coast during the three generations of King Jijeung, King Beobheung and King Jinheung of the Silla Dynasty, The story of Ahn Yong-bok who made it clear that Dokdo is the territory of Joseon against Japan, The story of Jang Han-sang, who observed and recorded Dokdo while controlling Samcheok and Ulleungdo as a military official in the Joseon Dynasty, The story of Emperor Gojong, who made the Ulleungdo pioneering order and firmly informed the world that Dokdo was the territory of Joseon by the Imperial decree of 1900, The story of the Korean people who have defended Dokdo has been included so that the 1,500-year history of Dokdo can be known through data and videos about Dokdo-related figures.
Because it is an exhibition hall installed on a sidewalk with a large floating population, the core contents of Dokdo were contacted with various attractions. In addition, considering that there are many foreigners, all panels were added with English explanations, and Dokdo VR produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea was used to experience Dokdo. In real time, we were able to see videos of Dokdo and real-time Dokdo visitors. A photo zone has been set up so that visitors can take commemorative photos in the background of Dokdo, and events on the theme of Dokdo will be held every month. Gwanghwamun Dokdo Exhibition Hall runs from 11:00 am to 8:00 am (14:00 to 15:00 lunch break) every day. For inquiries about operation, call 02-2012-6100.
