‘The genealogy of Edict No. 41 in 1900 and the common view
that 'Seokdo' and 'Dokdo' are the same
On May 12, NAHF invited Yoo Mi-rim, director of the Korea Asian Cultural Institute, to hold the 388th Forum on Wednesday. Yoo, a Dokdo researcher, explained that the Seokdo of the Korean Empire Edict No. 41 is Dokdo with various materials and clear logic. She discussed the process of the known Edict No. 41 after liberation and the formation of the perception 'Seokdo=Dokseom=Dokdo'.
She said: “Until the 1960s, the contents of Edict No. 41 were not known, but many scholars had already recognized Seokdo as another name for Dokdo.”, “These perceptions and logic were established before we recognized the existence of edict.” In addition, introducing the dialects of Gyeongsang and Jeolla provinces, she proved linguistically the view of 'Dolseom, Dokseom = Seokdo, Dokdo'. 'Seokdo' is stated in Edict No. 41 as 'area of jurisdiction' of Uldo-Goon. This is the Chinese character of the name ‘Dokseom(Dolseom)’, which the residents called Dokdo at that time. It is clear that Dokdo is the territory of Korea since the Three Kingdoms period. Nevertheless, Japan continues to claim the sovereignty of Dokdo and ignores the historical truth. Moreover, Japan marks Dokdo as its territory on the official website of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. In the future, we should inform the reason why Dokdo is the territory of the Republic of Korea in an objective and reasonable way based on empirical data.
Expansion and Relocation Project of the Dokdo Museum Seoul,
Recruitment of Public Participation Group
The Dokdo Museum Seoul in Seodaemun is planning to move to Times Square. So NAHF recruits 512 Public Participation Groups to get a variety of opinions. The meaning of '512' is the year when General Isabu of Silla conquered the Usan country and 'Ulleungdo' and 'Usando(Dokdo)' became the starting point of Korean history.
The Public Participation Group is open to individuals, organizations and schools interested in Dokdo and the East Sea. From May 31 to June 15, 1) writing pentastich with 'Dokdo Museum Seoul' on NAHF's blog, 2) submit ideas related to expansion and relocation of the Dokdo Museum Seoul.
