So, Korea was excluded from the negotiating table, but it was bargained with the United States to sign the Mutual Defense Treaty Between the United States and the Republic of Korea and secure military aid.
Discussions on armistice began on 10 July 1951 at Naebongjang near Gaeseong. The agenda was cessation of hostilities and all acts of armed force, establishment of the DMZ, the need for monitoring clauses and related organizations for the practice of Armistice, and the treatment of prisoners of war. The two sides have been sharply at odds for 18 months due to issues concerning prisoners of war. The agreement was made on June 8, 1953. The negotiation process for armistice illustrates how difficult it is to go through before stopping the war.
