Balhae, which disappeared from the stage of history, is being revived with the excavation of Balhae's Yeomju Fortress in Kraskino, Russia's Primorsky Krai. The Kraskino Fortress, called the Yeomju Fortress in Balhae at the time, was the center of marine and land transportation. Trade between Balhae and Japan, in particular, can be confirmed through the Jungdaeseong-Cheop, which is preserved in Japan's Imperial Household Agency.
Since 2006, the Foundation has been conducting an excavation survey of the Yeomju Fortress in Balhae until the present in cooperation with the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography, Far-Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences.
