Dokdo is an island that takes on a special meaning for us Koreans. Not only is it a painful reminder that we were once under Japan's colonial rule, it is also a proof of Korea's independence and a potential guide toward a peaceful future in Northeast Asia through historical reconciliation. But how familiar are we with the appearance of this lonely island on the East Sea? To capture the beauty of Dokdo in pictures and promote it to the world, the NAHF worked with photographer Kim Jung-man. Kim's works, produced from August 2012 to October 2013, feature Dokdo at different hours of the day and night and in different seasons, showing the breathtakingly beautiful and various faces of the island. They invite us to see the aspects of Dokdo that were unknown to us and will make a new history.
